Carole joined LGBRC in 2008 as a cat.
4 racer. How did she get into cycling? "As a "want-to-be-runner" at age 26 I never made it. Plagued by shin splints a sports medicine doctor recommended that I cross-train on bike to relieve the wear and tear. That's about all I needed to become sold on the fun and benefits of cycling. I dropped running all together at age 30 and bought my first all carbon frame! A Vitus Carbone 9. That was a long time ago!" What does she consider her greatest cycling achievements? " Well, there are many... I did the first Cycle Oregon in 1987. I set a land speed record of 52 mph going into Fossil Oregon. I built my own wheels and rode on them for years - they were bullet proof! Transitioning into racing this year is a huge achievement after spending the whole of 2007 training - doing practically every freak'in Century on the planet!" What other interests does this multi-faceted member have? " I have a passion for American Eskimo dogs, pizza and good times with friends. I would love to be an "Eskie" foster Mom - we'll keep that on the books for later. Next project: figuring out how to do an addition on my house. I need more room for bikes! (Oh, and a hot tub! - good for recovery....) " She adds, "2008 is a learning year for me on the racing scene. I want to try everything and learn my strengths and weaknesses. Race everything and learn what it takes without the baggage of having to podium. Next year I will take what I have learned and focus it to my advantage. Podium? Maybe. But my focus will be to drive my fitness to achieve my best performance. Race outcomes fall where they may..." |
