Jim is a category 2 road and track racer who joined LGBRC in 2002 as a junior racer. A student at UCSC, he is now a member of the LGBRC board as our junior laison.

He says, "I became involved in cycling from an early age by way of my parents.  They, especially my Dad, always enjoyed riding and when I was big enough we bought a triplet (a 3 person tandem)."

"I must admit I fought riding early on.  Eventually I became more interested due to the efforts of my Dad and his friend Phil Aaronson(also a club member).  The final catalyst to my fascination with cycling was Farid's junior program Tuesdays at the track.

When asked what he considers his greatest cycling achievement, he answers, "There are many times on the track that I do well but I have always struggled on the road.  There are two times on the road, both this year, that capture the prize of my greatest cycling achievement.  The first was the Wente Criterium in the Cat. 4 race.  I raced the way I wanted to, I was aggressive and at the front.  I ended up 5th out of 80 or so riders after starting my sprint too early.  The next was the Timpani Criterium in the Junior 15-18s.  The plan in my head finally got the cooperation of my legs. I broke away with 2 other riders (both of the same team), followed their accelerations, and toasted them in the sprint."

His other interests? "Outside of cycling, I'm finishing up my last year at UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Economics and minors in History and Information Systems Management. Between school and cycling I keep myself pretty busy."

He adds, "Go fast, turn left. Rubber side down."
