Rikke Preistler

Rikke joined LGBRC in 2009. After entering 5 races, she upgraded to Cat. 3.

When we asked her how she first became interested in cycling, she said, "I started riding my bicycle to school in first grade because the school bus was too slow. It was a 4-mile round trip every day. When I was ten years old I got the job as the "news paper girl" and biked 10 miles per day, 6 days a week bringing out newspapers. When I was fourteen I had finally saved up enough money (delivering newspapers and picking strawberries and flowers) to buy my first road bike, a Motobecane Touring, steel bike, 12 speed, with SunTour gears. It was yellow and purple and my most treasured belonging for many years. I got involved in cycling out of necessity, and now I really enjoy that fact that I can cycle for fun when I choose to, not because I have to."

When asked about her cycling achievements to date, she replied, "My greatest achievement was to take 1st place in one time trial, one road race, and one criterium in three consequtive days over Memorial Day weekend."

She continued, "When I'm not biking I am a biologist, and I work on marine invasive species. I try to understand why some invasive species are very successful in their new range and what we can do to prevent or manage the spread of invasive species."

"I am new to racing and I am very curious to see what it's like. Until now, I have mostly been riding and training with my husband and a few friends, and I look forward to having additional team mates. I feel very lucky that I can spend time on the bike with my husband since I love both my husband and my bike dearly :) I also love my dog, but unfortunately, she can't ride a bike yet."

"My goal is to be as good as I possibly can, yet still have a full time job and have time for my family. I like to train and work hard, because I know it pays off in the end."
